SMOKING – NO!

Within the framework of the national program “Health is a way of life”, dedicated to the World Anti–Smoking Day, a round table on the topic “Don’t smoke, quit smoking!” was held at our university

The round table was attended by the doctor of the Mental Health Center, psychiatrist-narcologist Baymuratova Raushan Asanovna, specialist of the Turkestan Regional Center for Healthy Lifestyle Formation Aizhan Moldabayeva, as well as students and teachers of the university.

Baimuratova Raushan Asanova noted three main signs of smoking as a chronic disease: addiction to smoking, systematic excessive use and dependence. The psychiatrist-narcologist stressed that according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, it is necessary to avoid tobacco smoke and vape electronic cigarettes.

The reasons for smoking were indicated.

People, especially the younger generation, are prone to smoking abuse for the following reasons:

a) imitation of a group: a teenage girl or a boy adopts a negative habit of their peers in order to join the group;

b) imitation of a loved one, an idol: a teenage girl or boy starts smoking without having the experience of objectively assessing the negative habits of a loved one or his idol.

The results of the survey of students about why they smoke were as follows:

– Smokes cigarettes for fun;

– He thinks that, having started smoking, he will seem like an adult;

– Smokes cigarettes to give hoarseness to a thin voice, and then becomes addicted and cannot quit.

– He thinks that smoking will attract the attention of girls.

– They think that they will lose weight if they smoke.

During the discussion, opinions were expressed about the disastrous consequences of the above-mentioned causes of smoking.

The specialist of the Turkestan Regional Center for the formation of a healthy lifestyle, Moldabayeva Aizhan Madikhanovna, in her speech noted that the purpose of the round table was to promote a culture of health, raise awareness of students about dangerous factors, call for quitting smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, compliance with the rules of healthy eating and physical activity in order to form everyone’s responsibility for their health.
